Welsh Proms 2022

WELCOME BACK TO THE WELSH PROMS
9 - 16 JULY 2022

Following an unprecedented couple of years, we are proud, once again, to bring Wales’ National Classical Music Festival to the fabulous St David’s Hall - an unrivalled purpose built, acoustically excellent concert venue, right in the heart of the capital city.

With restrictions lifted*, audiences are welcomed back for a week long series of ‘Proms’ events, in the knowledge that they can relax and enjoy the performances in comfort and safety.

This year the Welsh Proms Artistic Director, Dr. Owain Arwel Hughes CBE in partnership with Cardiff Council brings together the very finest symphony orchestras, soloists and presenters to the National Concert Hall of Wales to make the 2022 Welsh Proms one to remember.

2022: a special year

This year, I celebrate my 80th birthday and I invite you to join me for this special occasion at the St David’s Hall. I have assembled some of the country’s most illustrious performers, including eminent Welsh orchestras and choirs, along with acclaimed pianist, Llŷr Williams, Euphonium player David Childs and world renowned Cory Brass Band.

Seasoned classical music lovers or first-time visitors to the Proms, will find much in our programme to enjoy. From our Opening Night ‘Masterpieces’ to ‘Brass & Voices Prom’, ‘Great Film Composers Prom’ with special guest, Huw Edwards, the Kanneh - Mason Family Prom or the incomparable ‘Last Night...’...the 2022 Welsh Proms promises to be an unforgettable experience.

2022 also marks the 40th anniversary of Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra and the 150th anniversary of the great Vaughan Williams and I’m sure you will join me in commemorating Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and 70 years of unparalleled public service.

Finally, I would like to thank the sponsors, patrons and volunteers, without whose support the staging of the Welsh Proms would simply not be possible.

Welcome back!

Dr. Owain Arwel Hughes CBE,
Artistic Director Welsh Proms
In partnership with St David’s Hall and Cardiff Council
