Beethoven  Ode to Joy (Last movement, Choral Symphony, No.9)

The celebrations continue as Owain Arwel Hughes CBE is joined by the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the massed choirs of the Welsh Proms Festival Chorus for an evening of favourite music by the world's greatest composers.

This wonderful evening will commence with the Overture from Rossini’s Barber of Seville and excerpts from Smetana’s Bartered Bride and music by, among others Brahms, Mendelssohn, Fauré and Dvořák.

The choral items will include the rousing 'Hallelujah Chorus’ from Handel’s Messiah, one of the most famous pieces of Baroque choral music, and a huge hit with last year’s audience who followed tradition by standing throughout the performance. The evening will conclude with the climactic ‘Ode to Joy’ from Beethoven’s monumental Choral Symphony No 9, celebrating 250 years since the composer’s birth.
