Mr Majeika and the Magic Organ: Family Concert with David Pipe (organ), John Biddle (narrator) and Jeremy Sampson (curator of the ‘WOOFYT’)

Pipe (Organist of Leeds Cathedral and Director of the Organists’ Training Programme, Diocese of Leeds) introduces the magnificent organ of the city’s iconic St David’s Hall and is joined by John Biddle (narrator) to perform Bob Chilcott’s Mr Majeika and the Magic Organ, based on Humphrey Carpenter’s popular children’s story.

In addition, Bach’s mighty Toccata and Fugue in D minor will be played by David, and to show the organ’s versatility, he will also play music from Star Wars and Harry Potter!

This Family Concert will also feature Jeremy Sampson and the Wooden One-Octave Organ for Young Technologists (WOOFYT) – a fascinating, hands-on experience for children which introduces them to the mechanics of the organ.

This is the second of five concerts in OrganFest 2019, 6–8 September. Click here for an overview of all the events in OrganFest 2019.

In association with St David's Hall, Cardiff.

The WOOFYT

The WOOFYT (Wooden One-octave Organ For Young Technologists) is a musical instrument consisting of the basic components of a pipe organ (air pump, air reservoir, organ pipes) and is a simple concept to help demonstrate how pipe organs work. It can also be used to explore the science of sound, engineering and team building. Come try it out for yourself with the whole family! More information about the WOOFYT can be found here

Viscount Classical Organs Wales will be in attendance too with a digital organ for you to try!
