HELENA BRAITHWAITE MBE MEMORIAL CONCERT
Bursting with drama and rhythmic intensity, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana is one of the most thrilling works in the in choral repertoire. Two of South Wales's eminent music ensembles, Cardiff Ardwyn Singers and Rhondda Symphony Orchestra, come together to perform this compelling work, joined by a guest chorus and junior choir.
This concert is presented as a memorial to accomplished musician and educator Helena Braithwaite MBE. Helena was incredibly influential within music education in South Wales, inspiring future generations of musicians and practitioners throughout a decades-long award-winning career. Helena was also Music Director of Cardiff Ardwyn Singers for 36 years and a member of Rhondda Symphony Orchestra as an accomplished cellist.
We are delighted to welcome Helena's ex-pupils, students, colleagues and peers, including former members of South Glamorgan Youth choir to join a guest chorus for this very special performance, which will also include a new choral composition by John Metcalf, dedicated to Helena, and Elgar's Great is the Lord.
