Michael Petrov

A former ECHO Rising Star, Michael has performed at major concert halls including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Barbican in London, Cité de la Musique Paris and the Kölner Philharmonie. He has appeared with the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic and CBSO Youth Orchestras and with the New Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, and has worked with conductors such as Gianandrea Noseda, Edward Gardner, Jamie Phillips and Rory MacDonald. 

Born in Bulgaria, Michael studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He was selected by the Young Classical Artists Trust in 2013 and won 1st Prize in the 2011 International Suggia Competition in Porto.

Michael is also a keen chamber musician and a member of Trio Isimsiz, with whom he won a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship Award in 2018. 

Spring 2019 will see the recording of his first solo CD with a programme including Poulenc’s Sonata op. 143, Dutilleux’s Trois Strophes and César Franck’s Sonata in A.

Erdem Misirlioglu

Erdem Misirlioglu started piano lessons when he was nine. He recently completed his Artist Diploma at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, studying with Martin Roscoe and Ronan O'Hora, following undergraduate and Master’s studies in performance with first class honours. In 2008 Erdem was a Concerto Finalist in the BBC Young Musicians Competition performing Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.   

During his studies Erdem has won numerous awards, including the Keyboard Instrument Prize in 2006 and the Principal’s prize in 2008 at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.   He was a prizewinner in the 2006 International Rachmaninov Competition and in 2011 was awarded 1st prize in the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe's intercollegiate piano competition.

A passionate chamber musician, Erdem is also a member of Trio Isimsiz, a piano trio formed with friends at GSMD in 2009. The Trio was selected by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) in 2013 and won 1st Prize and the Audience Prize at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition in 2015 and 2nd Prize in the 2017 Haydn Competition in Vienna. They have a busy concert schedule with recitals throughout Europe and further afield.

Erdem has enjoyed participating in masterclasses with distinguished pianists including Bernard Roberts, Peter Donohoe, Lang Lang, Paul Lewis and Stephen Kovacevich and has performed in venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St James' Piccadilly, Snape Maltings, Cardiff Millennium Centre and Wigmore Hall.
