In 1992 Andrew Lumsden was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Lichfield Cathedral.
Since September 2002, he has been Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral. Under his directorship, the Choir has made a number of recordings and broadcasts. The boy and girl choristers have taken part in BBC Proms seasons, singing with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir under Sir Simon Rattle in 2014 and with the Danish National Orchestra and Fabio Luisi in 2015. The lay clerks and boy choristers visited Rome and Florence in 2017. Andrew continues to give organ recitals in this country and abroad, and as conductor of the Waynflete Singers, he works regularly with major orchestras including Florilegium, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players. In 2015, he spent two months in Australia and New Zealand, giving a number of organ recitals and masterclasses and directing choirs, and returned to Auckland in 2018 to conduct an RSCM course. Whilst there, he was the first overseas player to give one of the inaugural recitals on the new organ in Auckland Cathedral.
As a soloist, Andrew Lumsden has appeared with the LPO at the Royal Festival Hall, the ECO at the Barbican and the CBSO in Symphony Hall, Birmingham. He was the one of the youngest people to broadcast a solo recital on BBC Radio 3 (he was 17 at the time) and has broadcast live organ recitals from the University of Huddersfield and Westminster Cathedral. He frequently tours abroad - recital venues have included such diverse places as Bergen, San Francisco, Saint Tropez and Harare.
