George Harliono, piano

JS BACH/KEMPFF: Siciliano, BWV 1031
HAYDN:  Sonata in E minor,  Hob XVI/34
LISZT: Transcendental Étude No 10 Appassionata, S 139
LISZT: Transcendental Étude No 11; Harmonies du Soir, S 139
LISZT: Spanish Rhapsody, S 254

In 2019 George was a prize-winner at the YCAT International Auditions at Wigmore Hall. Born in London, he became the youngest student ever to take up a scholarship at the Royal College of Music in 2017.

Awards include top prizes at the Grand Piano Competition in Moscow (2016), the Gina Bachauer (Utah 2016), Aarhus (Denmark), Royal Over-Seas Legaue and Dinu Lipatti (Bucharest) Competitions.

This season George gives recitals at Wigmore Hall, the International Piano Series at the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, St. David’s Hall Cardiff and Leeds Town Hall.

He performs Liszt’s Concerto No.1 with the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester conducted by Sebastian Weigle and returns to Moscow to perform Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with the Musica Viva Orchestra conducted by Alexander Rudin.

As soloist George has appeared with the Marinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev, the Moscow State, Tatarstan National, Sochi Symphony, Tyumen Philharmonic, New Millenium Chicago, Jurmala Festival (Latvia) and Firebird (London) Orchestras.

Recital highlights include the Scherzo series in Madrid, Berlin Philharmonie, Royal Albert Hall, Konzerthaus Vienna, Duszniki Chopin Festival and the Russian Academy of Arts.

George is YCAT’s inaugural Duet Group Artist.

Harliono has already appeared with the Mariinsky Orchestra under Gergiev, so he has already been making waves…. Harliono seemed to be savouring each separate note, taking all the time in the world to stress the composer’s melodic train of thought and poetic line.

Read about Harliono at the Jūrmala Festival Orchestra in Bachtrack editorial, July 2019.
