Capital City Jazz Orchestra with special guest soloist Jim Mullen

  • Level 3 Lounge

The Capital City Jazz Orchestra was formed in 2007 and features some of the finest Jazz musicians in South Wales. They play regularly at Jazz Clubs across Wales and have performed at the Brecon Jazz Festival and Swansea International Jazz Festival. In the last 10 years they have worked with a host of international Jazz artists including Clare Teal, Matt Ford, Lee Gibson, Claire Martin, Alan Barnes, Mark Nightingale, Dave O' Higgins, Bruce Adams, Nigel Hitchcock and Bobby Shew.

Multi-award winning guitarist Jim Mullen will join the CCJO.  Jim is legendary amongst musicians all over the world.  His distinctive soulful style, like Wes Montgomery, picking with his thumb rather than a plectrum, has been described as “the best blues singer that Glasgow has ever produced!” The Herald.

Jim toured and recorded with Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express, Vinegar Joe, Pete Brown, and Kokomo, before a 15-year partnership co-leading the iconic British jazz/fusion band “Morrissey Mullen” with the late great saxophonist Dick Morrissey.
Jim was also in demand with U.S. artists including Mose Allison, Jimmy Witherspoon, Jimmy Smith, Teddy Edwards, Benny Green, Terry Callier and Gene Harris. From the UK, he worked and recorded with Georgie Fame and Claire Martin.
Jim has many albums with his own projects - 4 albums for EFZ records featuring Dave O’Higgins, Laurence Cottle and Ian Thomas. 4 albums with the acoustic quartet of Gareth Williams, Gary Husband and Mick Hutton.
On the Diving Duck label Jim has recorded several well-received organ trio CDs and most recently “Volunteers” featuring his own compositions with a 9-piece band of A list U.K. musicians arranged by Gareth Lockrane.

“his ability to spin a seemingly effortless stream of melody, never fails to keep
your ears fully occupied.” The Observer
