Mainly Two – Marie Schreer and John Garner – formed in 2013 with a view to expanding the repertoire for two violins and bringing greater awareness to an often neglected medium. They have commissioned new works from some top composers of the moment and their two- part debut album, Poetry/Synergy was released in 2014. They return to the studio in autumn 2019 to record several new commissions including works by jazz pianist Kate Williams and Mainly Two’s own John Garner.
Hailed by the Boston Music Intelligencer as a ‘heroic piano soloist’ with ‘stunning virtuosity’, George Fu has performed across the Americas and Europe. His interest in interdisciplinary work sees him performing in various capacities: frequent performances as chamber musician, duo partner and ensemble player combined with collaborative projects with ballet and drama productions, writing and giving lecture –recitals. He is an avid performer of contemporary music and is an active composer himself. He is currently a piano fellow at the Royal Academy of Music.
Thomas Ang has earned recognition as a specialist in the music of Nikolai Kapustin, having performed and conducted world prèmieres of his compositions in the UK, US, Singapore, Australia and Taiwan. He has a strong interested in contemporary music, Thomas also works as a répétiteur and ballet pianist. He also accompanies and improvises for silent film and writes poetry and transcriptions of songs and symphonies.
All nightmusic performances take place in the intimate setting of St David’s Level 3 Lounge, with atmospheric lighting and spoken introductions from the performers to open up their musical worlds. Every event will be as informal as it is immersive, with plenty of opportunities to talk to the artists between sets. We even include your first drink in the ticket price.
