INTERNATIONAL SOLOISTS
A terrific roster of outstanding soloists including pianists Benjamin Grosvenor, Paul Lewis, Nicolai  Lugansky, Beatrice Rana and Louis Schwizgebel, cellists Narek Hakhnazaryan and Jian Wang, clarinettist Emma Johnson and violinists Pinchas Zukerman, Viktoria Mullova and Marat Bisengaliev.

St David’s Hall is committed to promoting orchestral and classical music to as wide and diverse an audience as possible. Pre-Concert Talks (FREE)
One hour before each of our concerts we have a 30-minute insight into the music and the context to the performance. These popular events are accessible and informative and a great way to get more from your
concert experience.

Jonathan James draws
on both his conducting
and teaching experience
to give enthusiastic
lectures in venues
around the country. He
works as a presenter for
orchestras, including the
BBC National Orchestra
of Wales, Bournemouth
Symphony Orchestra and
Royal Philharmonic, and
is founder-director of the
Bristol Pre-Conservatoire.
 

Dr Keith Chapin lectures
in music at Cardiff
University School of
Music. From Alaska
originally, he has also
worked in New York and
New Zealand. He is an
active amateur violist.

 

 

 

 

 

Hedd Thomas is
the Nicholas John
Dramaturg for Welsh
National Opera. He is
a freelance composer
and international music
journalist writing on
world, traditional and
classical music in
Morocco, Poland, Austria

ICS: YOUNG ARTISTS
Before each concert we’ll be hosting young performers on the Lefel 3 day stage from the region’s music schools. These young people are at the start of their music journey that may take them on to the main concert hall one day.

ICS: THE CLASSICAL MUSIC ROADMAPS (FREE)
LEFEL 1 – THURSDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2018 / THURSDAY 21ST MARCH 2019
Jonathan James takes you on a whistle-stop tour of 250 years of classical music, from medieval monks to modern masterpieces. With fun live illustrations on the piano and a pot pourri of audio excerpts, this light-hearted presentation will help you join the dots in classical music history and introduce you to a whole new world of listening. Suitable for both the
complete novice and seasoned concert-goers.

The National Concert Hall of Wales is owned, managed and funded by Cardiff Council.  St David's Hall is supported by the Arts Council of Wales.

     

Philharmomia

Friday 30 November, 7.30pm

Made in China: Under the helm of Long Yu and renowned cellist Jian Wang the Philharmonia return for a glorious evening of Russian and Czech Classics.
