Stephen Hough plays Beethoven
BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales
Friday 18 January, 7.30pmBook now
|Beethoven||Piano Concerto No. 4|
|Mahler||Symphony No. 10|
Mahler’s set of orchestral songs was the first of its kind. The listener is taken from the everyday pleasure of
a smelling a flower to the midnight of the soul. The unfinished tenth symphony was a deeply cathartic work
for the composer, helping him to come to terms with his broken marriage and impending death. Meanwhile, right from the solo opening chords, Beethoven gently finds new ground within the piano concerto genre.
Please note that all BBC NOW concerts are recorded live for BBC Radio broadcast.
