Os nad ydych yn gyfarwydd â llais Cara Dillon, mae yma drêt yn eich aros chi.Os ydych eisoes ymhlith ei lleng o edmygwyr drwy’r byd yn grwn, fe wyddoch o’r gorau fod yma rywbeth arbennig ar eich cyfer chi.

Mae’r gantores ryfeddol o Wyddeles yn cerddora mewn modd sy’n mynd y tu hwnt i genres ac yn croesi ffiniau.Enillodd bob gwobr canu gwerin sydd ar gael ond, yn ôl ei haddefiad ei hun, nid purydd mohoni, a’i cherddoriaeth yn cyrraedd y tu hwnt i gyfyngiadau a therfynau traddodiad.“To me, you can go anywhere with every song. The melody and message is at the forefront of everything I do.I don’t really care where the song came from, how old it is, and who did it first. It’s whether it strikes a note in my heart, does it haunt me, do I need to sing it?”

Ym mhentre bychan Dungiven, Gogledd Iwerddon y magwyd Cara, sy’n canu ers bore’i hoes.“I do believe I am part of a continuing story, a story that’s still unfolding, that reaches back through songs I’ve grown up with, and uncles that emigrated to America, and stuff that happened in my own family, and reaches forward to stuff that’s still happening now.”

Ar ddiwedd y 1990au, gadawodd Cara a Sam yr archgrw^p gwerin Equation a’r label mawr Warner Brothers i lofnodi cytundeb â Rough Trade a recordio gartref ei début o’r flwyddyn 2001, Cara Dillon.Aeth yn ei flaen i ddod yn llwyddiant canu gwerin ysgubol y flwyddyn.Yn 2007, ar ôl dau albwm eithriadol eto, gadawsant Rough Trade i ffurfio eu Charcoal Records eu hunain.Roedd Cara yn disgwyl gefeilliaid (Noah a Colm, bellach yn naw oed) ac roedd ar y ddau eisiau mwy o reolaeth ar eu bywydau cerddorol.Yr albwm Hill of Thieves o’r flwyddyn 2009 oedd ei mwyaf llwyddiannus hyd hynny, yn y deg uchaf yn siartiau Indie Prydain ac yn rhif un ar siartiau Canu Gwerin iTunes a Chanu Gwerin a’r Byd Amazon.“It seems that if we please ourselves, we please other people too,” meddai Sam.

Pan fo’n canu, mae llais Cara’n amgyffred y nefolaidd.Ynddi’i hun, mae’n gallu bod yn ddi-flewyn-ar-dafod ac yn llawn asbri, a chanddi gymeriad nwyfus a chyfareddol.“I am so precious and passionate about our albums, but I am so happy aside from that to dabble and be open and try other things. If you’re just a closed book, you don’t really learn.”Creodd Black Is The Colour Cara gynnwrf yng nghlybiau Ibiza mewn ailgymysgiad tecno gan 2Devine, ymddangosodd ar sengl Children In Need 2009 All You Need Is Love ochr yn ochr â Peter Gabriel a Terry Wogan, a chanu ac adrodd ar drac sain Disney i Tinker Bell And The Great Fairy Rescue.

“They adjusted my accent occasionally. They were like, ‘Yeah, Cara, we love that, but what is nigh?’”meddai dan chwerthin yn ei goslef Wlster drom.“So I had to do lots of carefully enunciated ‘now’s.”Ym mis Ionawr 2012, recordiodd Come Dream A Dream yn benllanw sbloets nos Disneyland Paris.“It is the most Disney song you can ever imagine,” meddai Sam.“It goes out to 15,000 people a night.About eight million people have seen it so far. It’s bonkers.”

Dyma rywbeth nad w^yr llawer o bobol am Cara Dillon am na wyddai hyd yn oed hi ei hun mono tan ychydig flynyddoedd yn ôl.Mae hi ar y brig yn Tsieina.“There was an agent desperate to have us over.We headed out, no idea what to expect,” meddai Cara.“Turned out, we were playing National Concert Halls, 2000 seaters, sold out. They were all standing with iPads filming the gig, singing along in my accent, that’s the thing that really freaked me out. After the concerts, there was Security, I was signing stuff for hours, not being able to go to the loo without a hoodie over my head.It was like a parallel universe. We found out later that our first two albums were used as part of the curriculum for teaching the English language in China. So everybody at the concert had degrees in English, and they were all fuelled up on our music.”

Her fwyaf y blynyddoedd diweddar fu, ddiwedd 2007, cael bod ar Cara glefyd siwgwr math 1. “It was a huge shock,” mae’n cyfaddef.“I thought my life’s over, I’ll never do another gig, this is impossible.I would be lying if I didn’t say that every day is a challenge. But it’s true what everybody says, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.I honest to God wouldn’t change it for the world.Isn’t that really weird?I feel lucky that I’m able to experience it ’cause it made me appreciate everything in life a lot more.”

Pan feichiogodd Cara eto a geni’i merch Elizabeth yn 2010, roedd rhaid i’r pâr gymryd hoe.“Being pregnant and diabetic is very dangerous, so we dropped virtually everything,” meddai Sam.Yr agwedd gadarnhaol ryfedd braidd ydi bod llais Cara, yn nhyb ei gw^r, wedi newid er gwell.“She has come down a semitone, so her voice has an even smoother quality. She’s got such an intense soprano, now it can be more open in the lower range, it gives a bit more light and shade. It’s really apparent on this record.”

“Music is for everyone,” meddai Sam, yn crynhoi agwedd y pâr tuag at y cyfuniad o arddulliau a dylanwadau sy’n creu eu naws neilltuol.“It’s a common language.I’ve got no time for the folk police. As artists, of course we have an appreciation of the depths of music and how highbrow it can get.We are not shallow. We put every piece of blood sweat and tears into the music we make, that’s what matters to us.”

“Some folk musicians want to know every detail about a song, and I really empathise with that,” meddai Cara wedyn.“But it’s not what’s important to me.I just identify with a song, I’m looking for something that touches me deeply, and I feel like I’m the vessel for letting it live on.”
