2011-12 Concert Season
BBC National Orchestra of Wales is proud to be Orchestra-in-Residence at St David's Hall.
This season BBC National Orchestra of Wales present their new series of concerts embracing all the emotions of the human condition: grief, despair and gothic terror are balanced by hope, tenderness, ecstasy and joy.
Works of all kinds feature as Wales's national orchestra are joined in the national concert hall by a starry list of guest soloists and conductors, including Steven Isserlis playing Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto, Angela Hewitt performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No 22 and Kazushi Ono conducting Bruckner's Symphony No 7.
The season Principal Conductor Thierry Fischer presents landmark performances of massive orchestral works, such as Richard Strauss's spiritual journey Alpine Symphony and Berlioz's great choral masterpiece L'enfance du Christ, a tender and nostalgic portrayal of the Christmas story.
The St David's Day Gala will continue the tradition of choral celebrations with combined primary school choirs joining the Orchestra for a jubilant evening of music by Welsh composers and popular classics, including a performance by Welsh harpist Catrin Finch.
BBC National Orchestra of Wales concerts can be heard on BBC Radio, Television and via the BBC iPLayer. Look out for concerts this season that will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, introduced from stage by a familiar Radio 3 presenter - come and be part of the experience!
