Sir Andrew Davis is one of today's supreme interpreters of the great English classics. Hear him in the unstoppable energy and vigour of Elgar's epic Italian tone-poem next to the pre-1914 world of Vaughan Williams's London Symphony, evoking the sounds of hansom cabs, Cockney mouth-organs and the tranquil Thames at night. Rising French pianist Lise de la Salle performs Mozart's Ninth Piano Concerto, in which he discovered his dark tragic mature voice.
